THE UNDERGROUND ROME
The tour starts at the Catacombs of St. Callixtus in which were buried tens of martyrs, 16 Popes and many Christians. Afterwards, we will visit the three different chronological and structural layers of the Basilica of St. Clement. Using a stairway we will reach the lower basilica, which is dated back to 4th century AD and preserves wonderful medieval frescoes.
Running down through another stairway we will arrive in a third underground level, whose structures are dated back to first century AD where we will find a complex of ancient roman houses. Finally, we will visit the Cripta dei Cappuccini located just under the Church Santa Maria della Concezione.
