This tour offers you the rare chance to sample the highlights of both Pompeii and Herculaneum, the ancient Roman cities buried under the ashes following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius is 79AD.
On this tour, you'll have ample time and opportunity to walk around the ancient town of Pompeii. You'll feel as if you're strolling through a town that still lives and breathes as it did 2000 years ago, and you'll discover how the local inhabitants lived, worked and spent their leisure time.
While Herculaneum is much smaller than Pompeii, it has the advantage of being a better preserved site, owing to the nature of the material which buried it – an avalanche of mud, 20m thick. This covering meant that not only the buildings, but also even the most delicate items such as wooden objects, paintings and mosaics, were preserved and remain intact today.
