Amedeo Maiuri (Veroli, January 7, 1886 - Naples, April 7, 1963) Italian archaeologist. From 1924 he was Superintendent of Antiquities of Naples and the South and director of the Archaeological Museum of Naples. Since 1936 he obtained for well-known professor of Antiquity Pompeian and Herculaneum at the University of Naples Federico II. After 1927 brought to light Herculaneum, interrupting the system definitely digging underground tunnels. He dug the whole area east of Pompeii, and facilitated the tourist use of the land clearing that was carried over and accumulated on the margins obstructed the view of the site, restoring structures, creating the Antiquarian, and deliver key equipment such as ticket offices, the gardens and lighting.
