Hippodamus of Miletus (V century BC.), greek urban planner and architect.


He was the first to use blueprints in the design of a city, based on roads drawn at right angles, neatly defining the residential areas, public buildings and markets. The Romans developed these models in the planning of their cities, so for Pompeii and Herculaneum having orthogonal cardines (streets North to South) and decumani (streets East to West).
