Domenico Fontana (Melide, 1543 - Naples, June 28, 1607) Swiss architect who worked in the late Renaissance in Rome and Naples. Designed the palace of the viceroy of Naples commission of Count de Lemos.


During the work on the construction of the canal linking the river Sarno at some mills in Torre Annunziata, first dug in and found many remains of ancient Pompeii. Not included, however, the importance of his discovery, and Pompeii was discovered only 150 years later.
