We were on a mother & daughter holiday in Italy and our visit to Pompeii was the highlight - thanks to our superb guide. It was a hot day and instead of wandering around the ruins on our own, getting lost and trying to find the most interesting buildings, we were carefully guided through the streets by Emiliano, who ensured that in our short 3-hour visit we got a real sense of how the people lived there nearly 2000 years ago. Emiliano's knowledge is vast but he doesn't overburden you with it, instead offering simple explanations of what you can see in the streets and buildings of the town. His English is excellent (he has worked in England as an archaeologist) and he can even arrange for you to be picked up from your hotel by Vespa scooter for the journey to Pompeii! We enjoyed our visit so much that we plan to return to Naples to visit the museum housing treasures from Pompeii and other Roman sites.
